Deni Hines – Jazz, Films and a new Tour with Christine Anu

May 9th 2008

In the past 3 years, Deni has released 2 albums “Water For Chocolate” (funded entirely by herself) and “The Other Woman” with James Morrison (destra), starred in the hit musical Dusty the Original Diva grossing over $20M, one of the hosts of a new Eco TV programme that’s forthcoming, toured the country with live performances, TV appearance and interviews in every major media outlet, a short holiday in Spain, has a new cat names Mr T and this is only the tip of the iceberg that just keeps moving.

Recently Deni & James Morrison collaborated on a brilliant album of covers titled “The Other Woman” featuring the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and not to mention two stellar original tracks “Wake Up” and “Tired of Being the Other Woman”. The album has hit the #1 position on the Australian Jazz Charts, Top 10 on the Independent Charts and Top 100 on the album charts, all this plus a near sellout National Tour. Deni & James will perform at the Christchurch Jazz Festival (2nd April) and the Melbourne Jazz Festival (4th May) and the Sydney Darling Harbour Jazz Festival (9th May). This is a must have album with rave reviews and if you missed one of the shows, catch one of the festivals or if you miss them there will be a live DVD of the tour out in June.

What better way to get your first feature film appearance that to be directed by the legendary Bruce Beresford. Deni who can turn her hand to just about anything from music, to musical, from TV presenting and now to film is a move boffin. You name it, she’s probably seen it. “Mao’s Last Dancer” is a major feature film by Bruce Beresford and Deni portrays the role of Anne Holmes. Stay tuned for more details...

Deni and sista Christine Anu kept on bumping into each other, at functions, gigs, studios etc and always had great affinity and respect so they’ve decided to hit the road together. Commencing in late April the girls will undertake an extensive tour around the country starting in NSW, QLD, VIC and will eventually hit SA, WA, NT and Tasmania. They’ll be on the road for 3 months. Each will perform a 45 min set with some duets, a special show not to be missed as these two carve up the stage.

EC are proud to be a partner with Brian & Jo Lizotte in the creation of the CD compilation series “Live & Cookin @ Lizottes”. A series of compilations featuring some of the most well known and loved artists that perform at the award winning venue/restaurant.

“Menu 1” is the first offering featuring the likes of Jon Stevens, Jenny Morris, Diesel (brother of Brian), Deni Hines, The Black Sorrows, Rick Price, Christine Anu, Richard Clapton, Deborah Conway, Daryl Braithwaite and two emerging independent Central Coast artists Mike McCarthy and Sarah Humphreys who are definitely ones to watch.

The bonus track of “Dock Of the Bay” recorded live at the venue by Jon Stevens and Diesel is spine tingling. You can buy the CD at the venue or any music retail outlet. “Menu 2” which has a country/bluegrass flavour will be released late April. Oh and did we forget to mention the forthcoming recipe book and TV series!!!

EC welcomes the new addition of Amber Lawrence to the roster.

May 5th 2008

Rising female country artist Amber Lawrence has stamped her mark with two Golden Guitar nominations for Female Artist of the Year and Maton New Talent of the Year. The first single “Things That Bring Me Down” hit #1 on the CMC Chart and #3 on the Country Music Radio Chart. The second single “Gonna Fly” hit #2 on the radio charts and #7 on the CMC charts all taken from the debut album “The Mile” produced by Rod & Jeff McCormack which reached #4 on the Australian ARIA Country Chart. Not a bad start at all.

Amber has also teamed up with Aleyce Simmonds, Dianna Corcoran and Kirsty Lee Akers under the moniker Chic Frontier and wowing crowds across the country in addition to Amber’s own solo shows. “Good Girls” the third single lifted from the album will be released late March. Check the tour page for continual additions to her live performances.

Jay P stars with “Goodbye”

May 5th 2008

Melbourne based singer songwriter Jay P has the depth of songwriting and a most unique voice not heard of in Australia. He’s recently come out of studio hibernation with his debut album “1565 Patiently Waiting” produced by Michael Zammit and mixed by Tony Espie.

Compared to the likes of George Harrison meets James Blunt and Noel Gallagher thrown in for good measure, you will remember Jay P after just one song. Its funny how things come abouty.

Jay P before his music has even been released has a small role in an independent film, one of the locations was a private house and in that house was an up and coming RMIT student, he heard Jay P’s music, they connected as people and next thing you know Nathan Alexander is making an animated video for Jay P’s track “Goodbye”.

Planning is underway for the release of Jay P’s single and album but you can check some tracks out on myspace as well as the animated video: www.myspace.com/jaypofficial.
